Creating Schemes

Schemes cannot be created without creating a project first. For help, see: Creating Projects The exception to this is using New on the Onuma Studios Page.

After a project is created, a scheme can be created by selecting one of the following options:

You will then be prompted to use:

Method 1:

  1. Enter your Site information:
    • Name of Scheme
    • Units
      • Imerial default
      • Metric
    • Currency
      • US Dollars default
      • Euros
      • GB Pounds
      • ZA Rand (R)
      • Norwegian Kroner (kr)
  2. (A) Search for your Site's location
    (B) Draw a polygon around your Site
  3. Hit Proceed to create your new Scheme or Cancel to go to List View of your Studio

Method 2:
(A) Import KML from Google Earth
(B) Hit Proceed to create your new Scheme or Cancel to go to List View of your Studio

B. Add Shared Scheme Process

A pop-up window prompts the user to select from a list of shared projects and templates in that current Onuma studio. After selecting a project next the user selects which scheme he or she wants to add.

AddShared.jpg

The added scheme can then be renamed under Scheme Name and an optional new Scheme Description may be added. If the scheme has building you can choose to copy those as well. Hit Proceed when done.

About Schemes

Any of the above processes will create a new scheme and open that scheme at the site level.
The grey box is a site or property line and can be edited.
Also, a Google Earth KML file may be imported and the shape and location of the site will match that from the Google Earth polygon.

A Scheme is organized into 3 levels:

  • Site Plan
  • Floor Plan
  • Space Plan

Area Limitations of Sites in Onuma

Due to the complexities of transformations of polar (geographic) coordinates as used in Google Earth to rectangular (2D Cartesian) coordinates as used in the Onuma System, SketchUp, or other CAD applications, the mapping of points becomes more inaccurate, the further the points are away from the origin (0,0) of the site. In addition, the distortions of the satellite and map images from Google and ESRI that are displayed in the Onuma System make the correctly placed site objects seem to be even more displaced. The tolerance for these inaccuracies depend largely on what needs to be accomplished.

An area of 5,000 by 5,000 feet with the origin in the center shows discrepancies of approximately 5 feet towards the edge. In an urban context, this is usually about the limit but in a rural environment, this might not be of much concern. Some sites that have been used for planning purposes are covering areas of 25,000 by 25,000 feet successfully but this is probably pretty much the limit of what area can be covered in a single site in the Onuma System.

Please note that the size of the site is determined by any object that is placed in a site plan, i.e. the site polygon itself, buildings, background images, etc. You will also notice that sites larger than this limit will not show the scales along the edge anymore and zooming out is limited as well (with scroll wheel or zoom button).

The good news: In the Onuma System, the user can divide an area into smaller subareas and work on each sub area with much greater accuracy. These sub areas can then be combined by selecting the sites in the project list and then clicking on the "Report on Selected Schemes" or "Compare" buttons. In the page with the reports there is also a "Network Link" which allows viewing of all the selected sites/schemes in Google Earth.
